Progress in Korea

Missionaries To Korea

I have some very exciting news for you. We have seen five teens make professions of faith this month! In my last letter I had talked about a young man who had been bringing many of his friends to church with him. Well we had a service two weeks ago and he and his girlfriend made professions of faith. After the service Anna and I went to talk with another one of the girls who got saved. She had been crying so Anna asked her if she was OK. Her response... “I am happy I have met Jesus.” I was at the point of tears we had been working so hard and not seen anything come from it. Then in one night we saw fruit in lives that we had personally be involved in. This was such an encouragement to my heart, I have been having a hard time dealing with the communication barrier. I truly love the kids we are working with but I kills me to only be able to have a superficial relationship with them. I can't talk with them to see where their heart is. I cant provide insight into their lives. I cant communicate the truth of Jesus. Well I can't do this on my own at least. I do speak once a month and the message is translated. I am thankful for this opportunity more than any other because I get to share my heart with them, I get to be one more person encouraging them to live for God that life for him is the best life.

This month we had another success story, not a exciting as the story before but still
good. We are learning about more and more cultural differences. Many Korean church do what they call visitation season. This is a period of about two weeks where bible studies are held in homes of the families in or affiliated with the church. In our English ministry Anna is teaching two middle school girls on Friday nights who's parents are not believers. During this visitation season the pastor we work with was given the opportunity to have a service in their home. This family came in contact with the church because of our English teaching ministry. We were very happy to hear that we are creating contacts where the gospel can be presented to those who do not believe.

We are thankful for you prayers as we were praying that we might see some fruit of our work here and God has showed us what he was and is doing around us. I do ask that you would pray for us and the language barrier, the more we get to know people here the harder it is becoming to not develop relationships past casual conversation. Also we have had to put a high school ministry on pause for now. While trying to get if off the ground it was found out that I could teach in an after school program done by the public schools but for the kids to get into it they would also have to go to school on Sunday, on top of the other 6 days they go to school, causing them to miss church service. Our Pastor here is talking to the school board to try and change the requirements but it will take time. Also we are about at the half way point of what we committed to being here. With that we are in a process of evaluating what we are doing and why. So that if changes need to be made this is a good time to do that. We are seeking the Lord's guidance please pray with us in this area of our lives.
